Talent development
Jong Metropole offers a podium to young top talent aged 18 to 26 years studying at the Dutch conservatoires or students with a Dutch passport studying at conservatoires elsewhere. After selections through auditions, musicians can participate in two projects each year: a Spring Tour and a Summer Tour. These projects bridge the conservatoire, with its individual lessons focussing on technique and theory, and professional practice. Students from both the classical and jazz departments get together in Jong Metropole to prepare for a professional career in a musical world in which boundaries between genres fade and flexibility in performing styles is increasingly required.
Jong Metropole is a stepping stone to a professional career for young musicians. As a conservatoire student in Jong Metropole you will experience the power of creating music together and working with different (top) conductors, soloists, coaches, composers and arrangers. This contributes to acquiring new inspiration and the development of your individuality as a musician. During the projects, we organise workshops on several aspects of professional practice to enable you to experience the development of new performances and the demands of a professional career as a musician. Also, the auditions are part of our talent development programme: auditioning requires great technical and musical proficiency as well as dealing with mental pressure. Every musician will need to audition to acquire professional positions, a skill for which training is inevitable.
Talent development at Jong Metropole is the result of the cooperation between all three partners of the orchestra. Read about the ideas and activities on talent development on the websites of the Metropole Orkest (MO), the National Youth Orchestras of the Netherlands (NJON) and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of the Netherlands (NJJO).
