Reunion (summer 2021)

In the summer (2 to 8 August 2021), Jong Metropole will tour with a symphonic jazz / pop repertoire out of the rich library of the Metropole Orkest. After a week of rehearsals, the orchestra will tour through the Netherlands, visiting three to four unusual concert venues. Concerts will, for instance, take place during the NJO Muziekzomer ("Music Summer") festival. Jong Metropole was also invited to play during the international youth orchestra festival Young Euro Classic in Berlin on 10 August, but this concert has unfortunately been canceled due to the travel restrictions surrounding COVID-19. Please consult the events calendar for up-to-date information about concerts, dates and venues.

Programme

The tour bears the name of the new composition Reunion by Damiano Pascarelli, winner of the Rogier van Otterloo Award 2019, that will premiere this summer. Pascarelli wrote this assignment for Jong Metropole in the autumn of 2019 while studying, with the support of the Rogier van Otterloo Award, with Vince Mendoza and Bob Mintzer at the Thornton School of Music (University of Southern California). He completed the composition during the lockdown in the spring of 2020, which earned it the name Reunion: the work represents the hope and the desire to play together again. Reunion is musically inspired by the work of Rogier van Otterloo, including the piece Esther, written as film music for the famous Dutch movie Soldaat van Oranje.

Conductor and soloist

German conductor, arranger and band leader Jochen Neuffer, know from several successful projects with the Metropole Orkest, will be leading the Summer Tour 2021. The soloist will be Kika Sprangers (saxophone). She took part in the very first edition of Jong Metropole in 2015 and will return as the soloist in the summer of 2021.

Award

During this Summer Tour, the winner of the Rogier van Otterloo Award 2021 will be announced.
