Soloist

Kika Sprangers

At the end of July / early August 2021, Jong Metropole will tour together with Kika Sprangers on saxophone. Kika (1994) is a familiar face at Jong Metropole as she led the saxophone section of the National Jazz Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands (NJJO) in 2016 with pianist Martin Fondse as conductor. Kika Sprangers graduated that same year at the HKU Utrechts Conservatorium. Her star rose fast: she recorded her first EP Leaves of Lili in 2019, followed by her album Human Traits in 2019, which was nominated in 2020 for a Jazz National Edison. In 2019 she was elected Young Jazz VIP, she hit the North Sea Jazz stage with her quintet and she was listed among the Talents for the twenties in quality newspaper NRC. In 2020, Kika Sprangers was young artist in residence at the NJO Muziekzomer ("Music Summer") festival, a title which has been prolonged to the summer of 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 measures. In this role, she will also perform as a soloist with Jong Metropole.
