Discover the sounds of Central and South America with the Netherlands’ most vibrant orchestra! Jong Metropole presents an energetic setlist brimming with complex rhythms and lively melodies, led by Jacomo Bairos. With tracks such as ‘Esperanca’ by Vince Mendoza and ‘Wakafrica’ by Manu di Bango, it’s impossible to sit still at this summer party.
Latin American music is the result of centuries of cultural exchange. During the colonial period, millions of Africans were forcibly brought to the Americas. They brought their rhythms, singing traditions and spiritual music with them. In countries such as Cuba, Brazil and Colombia, these African influences blended with European harmonies and indigenous melodies. From this encounter emerged musical styles such as son, salsa, samba and cumbia, genres that are loved worldwide today. From rousing dance rhythms to tranquil, lyrical moments: this concert celebrates the richness and diversity of a musical heritage that connects continents.
In keeping with tradition, the summer tour of the Jong Metropole will also feature the premiere of the new composition by the winner of the Rogier van Otterloo Award. Last year, this prize was awarded to composer, arranger and former Jong Metropole pianist Chris Muller.
Jong Metropole is a collaboration between the National Youth Orchestras of the Netherlands (NJON) and the Metropole Orchestra, and is made possible in part by the Keep an Eye Foundation and the Cultuurfonds (thanks in part to Jan en Tina Huizinga Fonds, Jonge Musici Fonds, Fonds Angela E. and Fonds Jong Talent).

Praised as “thrilling,” “world-class,” and “inspirational,” Portuguese-American conductor and producer Jacomo Bairos is celebrated for his innovative approach, electrifying artistry, and visionary programming that is redefining the modern orchestral experience. With a career spanning symphonic masterworks, cross-genre collaborations, and acclaimed recordings with Grammy-winning artists and the world’s foremost orchestras, Bairos unites tradition and innovation in ways that resonate deeply with today’s audiences. He previously worked with Jong Metropole in 2024, much to the delight of all orchestra members as well as the audience.
Jong Metropole
Jong Metropole is a unique collaboration between the National Youth Orchestras of the Netherlands (NJON) and the Metropole Orkest (MO). Jong Metropole consists of the best musicians from the Dutch conservatoires. Young talented music students from both the classical and jazz worlds meet in this unique orchestra that brings both worlds together. The orchestra is a unique platform for young musicians to develop their skills, form a community and experience the world of professional music. Jong Metropole was established in 2015.
